Distances for everyone:

Free Try-It Out Day: Bike Repair & Tune-Up Café

Part of the Active Library: Free Try-It Wellness Series.

Cosponsored by Red Deer Association for Bicycle Commuting

This practical cycling activation day reduces barriers to active transportation and helps families prepare for the summer cycling season. Participants will receive free basic bike tune-ups, tire checks, chain cleaning, and safety advice. Local bike shop partners will offer short workshops on saddle, handlebar, and frame adjustments.

Additional activities include:

  • Bike rodeo stations for children and adults alike
  • Short bike ride route around the Dawe Centre on a protected trail
  • A free adult bike draw (in partnership with the Optimist Club)
  • Promotional support for the 2026 ParticipACTION Community Challenge
  • Information about the library’s summer Fancy Women Bike Rides

This event serves as an initial activation opportunity for anyone wanting to start or return to biking in an accessible and supportive environment.

Fancy Women Bike Ride: Centrefest Weekend Ride

Co-sponsored with the Red Deer Association for Bicycle Commuting.

Route: Collicutt Centre → Kerry Wood Nature Centre trails → Downtown → picnic at City Hall Park

This joyful community ride kicks off the Fancy Women Bike Ride summer season during Centrefest weekend. Starting at noon at the Collicutt Centre, participants will cycle together along accessible trails and downtown streets, finishing with a relaxed picnic in City Hall Park.

The ride emphasizes visibility, fun, and togetherness, welcoming cyclists of all experience levels. The pace is social and supportive, with plenty of time to connect, take photos, and enjoy the festival atmosphere.

Suggested dress code:

Centrefest-inspired flair encouraged! Think bright colours, playful patterns, summer dresses or skirts (bike-friendly), flower crowns, scarves, and joyful accessories. Comfort and self-expression come first – heels not required, smiles encouraged.

Ride for a Reason

Join us for the 2nd Annual Ride for a Reason Poker Rally on August 8—a fun-filled day of riding, community connection, and giving back!

Participants will travel a scenic route with designated stops along the way, collecting poker cards at each location. At the end of the rally, the best poker hand wins! Whether you're an experienced rider or just in it for the fun, this event offers a great opportunity to enjoy the open road while supporting a meaningful cause.

Proceeds from the event help support programs and services that strengthen individuals and families in our community.
