Event Description
Join us for an artist talk with Elaine Cameron-Weir whose practice explores the systems humans use to navigate the unknown, including science, religion, governance, and creative fields. Her sculptures transform objects from scientific, medical, military, and spiritual contexts into reliquary-like forms that symbolize broader belief systems and power structures.
Born in Red Deer, Alberta, in 1985, Cameron-Weir lives and works in New York. Recent solo exhibitions include Dressing for Windows (Exploded View) at SCAD Museum of Art (2022) and STAR CLUB REDEMPTION BOOTH at the Henry Art Gallery (2021). Her work has been featured in major group exhibitions including The Milk of Dreams at the 59th Venice Biennale (2022) and New Time: Art and Feminisms in the 21st Century at BAMPFA (2021).
The MAG is collaborating with the Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) to bring Elaine ‘home’ to talk about her practice and solo exhibit "Bookends" that is up at the Illingworth Kerr Gallery on the AUArts campus in Calgary from September 18 – November 21, 2026. To help folks tour Bookends, the Exhibitions team at Illingworth Kerr Gallery is offering FREE return fare to the exhibit on the Red Arrow. Rides can be requested by filling out a form available on our website.
Both this talk at the MAG and visiting the Illingworth Kerr Gallery to tour the exhibit are free. Everyone welcome!
