Event Description

You have walked past them. The bronze figures scattered through downtown are the Ghosts of Red Deer, one of the largest collections of life-size bronze sculpture in Canada. We willing to be most people who live here could not name a single one.

There is a hockey face-off, a firefighter, a railway worker arguing with a small dog over a pile of money, and a pig who became a local legend. Each Ghost stands for a person, a piece of folklore, or a way of life that shaped our city, created by local and provincial artists and commissioned through the Downtown Business Association.

You can find the Ghosts on your own any day of the week. What you get on this walk is the part that is not on the plaque: who these people actually were, why they earned a statue, and what was happening in Red Deer at the time.

Two hours, entirely on downtown sidewalks, at a pace that leaves room for questions and photos. The tour meets at the MAG front entry at 1PM and heads out shortly after. Dress for the weather and wear good walking shoes.

This tour is free to attend throughout the month of September as part of our celebration of Alberta Culture Days.
