Day 2: September 9, 2026

Start time: 06:00 p.m.MDT
End time: 08:00 p.m.MDT

This month’s Making Art History presents Collage as an Art Medium

Collage is generally thought to have emerged as a prominent art form in the mid 20th century. However, for this month’s class, we’ll do a little digging to trace some of the earlier artistic techniques, such as those of 10th century Japan, which laid the groundwork for collage. We’ll also take a look at how artists in the Dada movement, such as Hannah Hoch, used collage as social commentary during WW2. Finally, the lecture portion of this class will engage with contemporary collage artists’ work and see how the medium has evolved in the digital era.

Registration covers both classes. All supplies included.

Making Art History is free throughout the month of September as part of our celebration of Alberta Culture Days.

Through Alberta Culture Days all programming is free through September.
